Overview & Challenge
Project Summary
Through continuous customer feedback, it was discovered that enterprise clients interact with the ThreatConnect Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP) in vastly different ways, creating competing requirements for their daily investigative workflows. To solve this, I led the design of a modular, highly customizable details tab framework that allows individual analysts to seamlessly tailor their Indicator and Group detail landing pages to match their precise needs. I paired this user-level autonomy with an organization-wide administration control framework, enabling Org Admins to easily configure, export, and distribute custom layout files as standardized corporate baselines.
The Challenge
In an enterprise SaaS environment, a static "one-size-fits-all" details page forces vastly different user personas to constantly hunt through dense views to find relevant information. Prior to this feature, our product backlog was flooded with conflicting customer requests to rearrange information in various ways. Building bespoke layouts for different clients was highly unsustainable and would have introduced extreme technical debt.
To solve this without writing one-off code, I designed a customization interface. The interface supported 50/50, 60/40, 40/60, and full-width layout grids, empowering users to dynamically arrange card data to meet their needs.
Process & Execution
Granular Layout Specifications
I delivered meticulous interaction specifications to guide the engineering team. The main specifications focused on the customization side drawer which had void states, card reordering, layout preferences, card removal, and card addition dialogs. Secondary specifications were focused on the admin organization defaults as well as the import & export functionalities.
Backlog Relief & Scalable Adoption
Upon deployment, the customizable framework was met with high user satisfaction. Analysts were finally able to customize complex details pages to mirror their unique daily workflows. By shifting layout configuration directly into the hands of enterprise users and admins, this feature successfully eliminated a massive influx of custom layout requests.
